The Cultural Night of Reykjavik
Saturday, 22nd of August 2009

Menningarnótt or "cultural night" is a yearly event held in Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, to celebrate the anniversary of Reykjavík. It has become one of the largest festivals in Iceland each year. It is estimated that over 100.000 people attend the concerts, art exhibitions and other events available during the Cultural Night in central Reykjavík. This is more than 30% of Iceland's population. The day starts early in the morning with the yearly Reykjavik marathon which is then followed by events located at the main stage in the city centre and the main shopping street in Iceland. There are over 100 different restaurants, bars and clubs in this area. The highlight of the festival is often an outside concert on the main stage by 3-4 of the most popular musicians in Iceland followed by a spectacular fireworks show around midnight.
